Thank you for your interest in this series. Link: https://www.cendrinemedia.com/Portfolio-Series/Murals-Winnipeg

In 2017, a friend and I were discussing the murals that are sprinkled around Winnipeg. We both agreed that they deserved attention because they are beautiful works of art.

So we started meeting in her neighborhood with the goal to photograph as many as we could. Then, after a few weeks, I continued on my own.

With more than 600 murals to capture, this is obviously a (very) long-term project. As of November 2018, I have photographed almost 120 pieces...

Winnipeg is the capital city of the arts in Canada. Here, there are more artists than people to support them. So, the competition can be a little fierce. As an artist myself, I want to give global exposure to all the wonderful creatives behind those murals. They deserve it.

Murals are open-air exhibits that are available for all to see. Unfortunately, people are not always aware of their existence. I hope that this project will increase their visibility and encourage positive conversations around art.

The Murals of Winnipeg Project has been a wonderful experience so far. I have met great folks and learnt very interesting facts about this city that became my home 15 years ago.

It’s awesome to be able to give a voice to my community!

This is a non-commercial project. I am not looking to make a profit. I do everything on a voluntary basis and am not paid for interviews or for promoting the pieces. I just want to celebrate art in this city.

Under each image, you will find a description section containing the name of the artist, title of the piece (if available), year it was designed, and a short backstory or personal comment. I also try to include a link to the artist's website whenever possible.

Should you find any error, feel free to contact me directly at cendrine@cendrinemedia.com. I want to make sure that I have the correct information and that all the artists are credited properly.

Many of you have already asked me if this project will turn into a book or a series of books. The answer is NO for the time being.

However, if it were to happen, all the parties involved would be the first to know. This means getting consent from quite a few people before going ahead. As you can imagine, it would be a lot of work.

Right now, this is just about celebrating the beautiful art that adorns the walls, garage doors, sheds, and traffic control boxes of the city. :-)

Cendrine, I think it's a wonderful thing you are doing... Or we would never know these or so many murals in Winnipeg exist! Simply amazing!! I love that you have captured many with the surroundings they are in - gives us a feel of the place around it as well. Congratulations! It is a great thing you are doing... ^_^

I was unaware of murals being so heavily present in Winnipeg. Looks like I have an excellent excuse to go and visit. A goal for 2019 I am sure!

I find your projects very interesting, particularly your Murals of Winnipeg photography portfolio. There is such a vast variety and richness of styles incorporated in this project and I hope you manage to get round to photographing all of them in the end!

What do you think about the project? Kindly include your location in your comment.

I can't remember anyone ever naming Winnipeg as a city of the Arts, but you are changing this, Cendrine! Congratulations, and I look forward to discovering the street art and majestic murals of Winnipeg through your photojournalism. Hugs from Switzerland!

This is a valuable project and highlights the touristic potential of Winnipeg. I wasn't aware Winnipeg had street art aligned with other well-known street art "capitals" in the world. Well done for letting us know about this! As an artist and a travel photographer, this a strong reason to make me visit Winnipeg. Great captures by Cendrine Marrouat!
