Also known as "Lake of the Little Fishes" (Stoney Nakota First Nations people), Lake Louise is named after the Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848–1939), who was the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria. It is located in Banff National Park.
The beautiful colour comes from the rock flour carried into the lake by melt-water from the glaciers overlooking it.
In the background, you can see the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel. First buiilt at the end of the 19th century, it was a vacation destination to entice rich travelers to take trains and head West. In 1999, it was acquired by a division of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
