Miletus is an ancient prominent Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia. Its ruins are located near the modern village of Balat in Aydin Province. Miletus was the home of philosopher, mathematician and astronomer, Thales of Miletus (6th-5th century BC), and architect Isidore of Miletus. It also welcomed St Paul on his final journey to Rome. Miletus has an impressive 25,000-seat Greek theater, reconstructed by the Romans, as well as a Temple of Apollo and a Byzantine church.
Didyma was an ancient Greek sanctuary on the coast of Ionia. It contained a temple of Apollo, the Didymaion, whose design was influenced by the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus and the Temple of Hera at Samos. Of the 122 Ionic columns that surrounded it, only three remain intact today. Each is 18 metres tall. Next to Delphi, Didyma was the most renowned oracle of the Hellenic world.
